HOW TO PROPOSE A CANDIDATE FOR MEMBERSHIP IN THE SHENANDOAH CLUB The Board of Directors is pleased that you are planning to propose a candidate for membership in The Shenandoah Club. It is the privilege and responsibility of each member to sponsor qualified candidates. Sponsoring a candidate is not a step to be taken lightly, however. A sponsor should consider carefully the qualifications of the candidate. PROCEDURES 1. All properly introduced candidates for membership will be considered on the basis of individual merit. 2. Applicants for Junior, Resident, and Non-Resident membership in The Shenandoah Club must be proposed by one resident member and seconded by two other members, by letter addressed to the Board of Directors. Convertible Legacy candidates need only one sponsor. A Convertible Legacy member must be under 40 years of age and the son or daughter of a current or deceased member. 3. All letters of recommendation must contain a statement of length of time that the writer has known the candidate. These letters must also express the writer’s opinion that the candidate, the candidate’s family, and close associates will be compatible with and acceptable to our membership. 4. Sponsor and seconders must know the candidate well. Sponsor must complete the application form which gives the vital statistics of the candidate, and is responsible that all of the necessary documentation is delivered to the clubhouse office. 5. Every candidate must be known to at least three Board members. The candidate will not be considered until this requirement has been met. It is recommended that every effort be made to arrange a meeting with as many Board members as practical for lunch or cocktails so as to develop a personal relationship between the candidate and the Board prior to the application submission. 6. The application will be presented to the Board by the Membership Committee at the board meeting after receipt of the application. Regular meetings of the Board are held usually on the fourth Tuesday of each month. An initial vote of the Board is taken to determine whether the name of the candidate should be posted on the Club bulletin board. If approved for posting, the name of the candidate and the proposer and seconders will be displayed on the bulletin board on the third floor of the clubhouse. After a minimum of thirty days, another vote will be taken by the Board to determine membership in the Club. 7. Please download and submit the forms below:
